DC|Prenataal, The Centre for Prenatal Diagnosis is specialised in fetal ultrasound scans. Scans are performed by sonographers, gynaecologists and doctors specialised in prenatal screening. Our center in Amsterdam uses the latest ultrasound equipment and provide the following tests:
Pregnancy dating
This is the first scan and is performed around the 10th week of pregnancy. The viability and localization of the pregnancy is determined, as well as multiple pregnancies if present. By measuring the size of the fetus -the so called CRL or crown rump length- the due date is calculated.
Combination Test
A risk calculation for Down syndrome can be made when the pregnancy is around 12 weeks. This combination test includes a maternal blood test and ultrasound examination of the fetal nuchal translucency, the fluid collection in the fetal neck, always present in this period.
20 Weeks scan
This scan is performed between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. Fetal anatomy is examined to exclude structural abnormalities. Fetal growth, the amount of amniotic fluid and the localization of the placenta is also determined.
3D and 4D echo
Using 3D or 4D ultrasound techniques makes it possible to get a clear and detailed image of the baby's face. With 4D technology - real time 3D images - it is possible to see the baby smiling, yawning or sucking. The optimal period for this scan is between 24 and 32 weeks. The chance of obtaining a beautiful image is dependant of the amount of amniotic fluid around the baby's head and the amount of maternal tissue between the ultrasound probe and the baby.
Gynaecological ultrasound scans
The Centre for Prenatal diagnosis also offer ultrasound examinations for gynaecological indications. These scans are made by gynaecologists and doctors specialised in ultrasonography. Information of uterus, its cavity, ovaries and possible follicles is obtained.
